Porirua Library A Long Hot Summer Story Festival

Bookings are now closed. The 200 registered children will find a full timetable in their personal goodie bag. If If you are not registered, there are plenty of public events to take part in.
Below is the public timetable, to which everybody is welcome. So, come along and get involved with the Festival!
Tuesday January 10, 10.15AM: Storytime with Jenny, featuring Song of the River by Joy Cowley. Collage a river and its banks at
Porirua Library.
1.30PM Your Stories, Our Stories, Their Stories, at Cannons Creek Library.
Wednesday January 11, 10.15AM: Preschool storyime with Jenny, featuring Edwina by Mo Willems. Make a hat for the dinosaur who refused to die, at Porirua Library.

You can also visit Whitby Library anytime between January 9 and 20 to create your own sun visor, and find out more about balloon character jandals! Pick up a Summer Fun booklet for 5-9 year-olds, and 9-12 year-olds. There will be colouring-in for everyone from preschoolers up.

Summer Recipe/Snack Ideas
Here are a few great Summer treats and healthy snacks to tuck into the picnic basket on lazy Summer days.

Tips & Tricks for Surviving Summer Outings with Littlies (local parents)
· A squirty bottle of water specifically for washing off sandy feet before getting back into the car is good – Susie
· Leave a bag packed so you just have to add drinks and snacks to it and go! When togs etc are out of the washing machine put them back in the bag instead of in a drawer where you have to go searching for them every time – Paula
· We bought a beach shelter from Bunnings for 10 bucks. Always best to have shade – Tina
· Keep a plastic container of essentials in the car so you always have them on hand. Eg. Nappies, wipes, bottled water, snacks, towels and changes of clothes – Kelly
· I recently heard (but haven't tried yet) that baby powder is the best thing to remove sand from damp skin, making it easier to reapply sunscreen or just get cleaned up before heading home - Lynsey
